CHILE, URUGUAY & ARGENTINA

Friday 23 JULY


2300 hrs Departing School
SATURDAY 24 JULY

0800 hrs Assemble at LONDON GATWICK AIRPORT, South Terminal, where a representative from Edwin Doran Sports Travel will meet you.

0815 hrs Latest check in time to flight UX1014.

1005hrs Flight departs to MADRID (flying time 2 hrs 25 mins).

1330 hrs Arrive Madrid Airport, Terminal 1, and remain in transit for 8 hrs 15 mins before connecting with flight AR1133 to BUENOS AIRES departing from Terminal 1.

2205 hrs Flight departs (flying time 12 hrs 25 mins).

Overnight in flight.


SUNDAY 25 JULY

0530 hrs Arrive EZEIZA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Buenos Aires, and clear Argentinean Immigration and Passport Control, collect your luggage and pass through Customs.

You will then be met by a coach who will transfer you to AEROPARQUE JORGE NEWBERY.

Arrive and check into flight AR1284 to SANTIAGO, Chile.

0955 hrs Flight departs (flying time 2 hrs 15 mins).

1110 hrs Arrive Santiago International Airport and clear Chilean Immigration and Passport Control, collect your luggage and pass through Customs, before being met by a coach and initially enjoying an orientation tour of Santiago.

Santiago is an interesting capital city with a mixture of both old colonial and modern architecture, with the Andes Mountains rising dramatically in the background.

Afterwards, you will transfer to a hotel where you will be based for the first night on tour on a bed and breakfast basis. The staff will be based here for five nights.

1400 hrs After you have had time to settle in you will be collected


MONDAY 26 JULY

0930 hrs Breakfast.

1045 hrs The boys will check out of the hotel.

You will have the day for sightseeing during which you can spend time together exploring the city of Santiago.

This interesting capital city is a mixture of both old colonial and modern, with the Andes Mountains rising dramatically behind the city. Visit La Monneda Presidential Palace, the Pre-Colombian Museum and the Palacio de Bellas Artes, a turn of the century art gallery and museum.

1630 hrs Arrive at THE GRANGE SCHOOL to meet your hosts who will look after you for the next two nights.

The staff members will remain at the Atton Santiago Hotel for a further four nights on a bed and breakfast basis.


TUESDAY 27 JULY

0745 hrs The staff will be picked up and transferred to school to meet the boys and girls.

0800 hrs The boys will come in to school with their hosts.

The morning is yours for some souvenir shopping and the city’s main market is the Mercado Central, which is housed in an impressive wrought-iron building.

1330 hrs Return to The Grange School.

1800 hrs Join your hosts for post-match hospitality (tercer tiempo).

After the tercer tiempo the students will return with their hosts and the staff will go out for dinner with the staff from The Grange School. (Staff will have to make their own arrangements to return to the hotel.)




WEDNESDAY 28 JULY

0830 hrs Arrive in school with your hosts this morning and bid farewell.

You will have the day for continued sightseeing together. You could spend time at the Metropolitan Zoo, which is said to have over 150 native and non-native species and beautiful botanical gardens, or alternatively, you might like to visit O’Higgins Park, Santiago’s largest public park. Amongst its attractions is 'El Pueblito', which resembles a typical Chilean country village.

At a mutually convenient time you will meet up with your next set of hosts from CRAIGHOUSE who will provide you with accommodation for the following two nights.


THURSDAY 29 JULY

0800 hrs Staff will be collected and transferred to the school to meet the boys.

0830 hrs Boys will arrive at school with their hosts.

You will have full use of the coach this morning.

Arrive back at Craighouse in time for preparation for your matches.

After the matches there will be some after match hospitality before heading home with your hosts.


FRIDAY 30 JULY

0630 hrs Staff will check out of the Atton Santiago Hotel and be transferred to school to meet the boys

0700 hrs Say goodbye to your hosts today and return to SANTIAGO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

0900 hrs Check in to your onward flight AR1285 to BUENOS AIRES, Argentina.

1150 hrs Flight departs.

1445 hrs Arrive Ezeiza International Airport where you will remain in transit for 3 hrs 15 minutes before connecting with flight AR1210 to MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay.

1830 hrs Flight departs.




FRIDAY 30 JULY (continued)

1915 hrs Arrive Carrasco International Airport, Montevideo, and clear Uruguayan Immigration and Passport Control, collect your luggage and pass through Customs. You will be met by a coach vehicle and transferred to the Uruguayan Rugby Union who will look after you for two nights.

After you have met and gone home with your hosts the staff will transfer to Hotel Cala Di Volpe for three nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

SATURDAY 31 JULY

Staff will transfer to the club to meet the boys.

The boys will arrive with their hosts in plenty of time to prepare for their match this afternoon.

After the match there will be some local hospitality laid on for you to enjoy.

The boys will go home with their hosts and the staff will transfer back to their hotel.


SUNDAY 01 AUGUST

Your hosts will drop you at the hotel this morning where you will meet the staff and check in for one night on a bed and breakfast basis.

Settle in and unpack, and later perhaps head down to the old port market, where you will find freshly cooked parillas and plenty of restaurants.






MONDAY 02 AUGUST

0700 hrs After breakfast the staff will check out of their hotel and board their coach to go and collect the boys.

The boys will come to the club with their hosts to meet the staff.

Bid farewell to your hosts and transfer to the port, in order to check in to the hydrofoil crossing across the RIVER PLATE to BUENOS AIRES, Argentina.

tba hrs Arrive Buenos Aires where you will, go through customs and be met by a representative from Interfly who will show you to your coach or the short transfer to your hotel.

Arrive at the Hotel Presidente where the whole party will be based for one night on a bed and breakfast basis. The teachers will check in for five nights.

After settling in, spend some time sightseeing in Buenos Aires, arguably the greatest city in South America, with its classical architecture, superb shops, wonderful restaurants and quite unique atmosphere.

Recommended is a visit to the colourful district of La Boca, the oldest area and home of the Tango. It is well worth a visit for its wonderful cheap cantina style barbecue restaurants brimming with atmosphere.

Within La Boca, you will find La Caminito ~ a street museum, displaying all the colourfully painted houses and a must for any visitor to Buenos Aires.

You could also visit La Bombonera (the chocolate box), home of Boca Juniors, Diego Maradona's old club. Daily guided tours of the stadium are available.

This evening, you will enjoy a traditional DINNER AND TANGO SHOW (included in price).






TUESDAY 03 AUGUST

Today, you will enjoy a half-day GUIDED SIGHTSEEING TOUR of Buenos Aires (included in price).

The city is often referred to as ‘the Paris of South America’, and the heart of the city, as in colonial times, is the Plaza de Mayo with the historic Cabildo (town hall), Casa Rosada, the presidential palace, and the Cathedral Metropolitana where San Martin, the famous liberator and father of Independence, is buried.

Afterwards, continue sightseeing at leisure. The Avienda 9 de Julio is the widest avenue in the world with ten traffic lanes and you will find many exclusive shops, theatres and the famous Colon Opera House, where it is possible to take a guided tour of the back rooms and stage sets.

At an agreed time you will meet up with your final set of hosts from BALMORAL SCHOOL who will provide you with accommodation for the following two nights.

The accompanying adults will return to the Hotel Presidente for the evening.


WEDNESDAY 04 AUGUST

0700 hrs Staff will transfer to the school to meet the boys.

0800 hrs The boys will come to school with their hosts.

Enjoy the morning in the company of your hosts and perhaps sightseeing together, before playing a match.

After the games there will be some hospitality laid on before the boys go home with their hosts and the staff return to their hotel.





THURSDAY 05 AUGUST

Today, you will enjoy a visit to an Estancia, a Latin American ranch (included in price).

You will be received with empanadas, asado, good Argentine wines (adults only!), and will be able to enjoy folkloric songs, dances and a show of Creole skill.

You can enjoy a variety of activities, such as; hiking, bird watching, horse riding, cattle herding, fruit picking, and fly-fishing. Other excursions, entertainment and leisure activities are available (at extra cost).

Later, you will transfer back to the Hotel Presidente where the whole party will be based for two nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

FRIDAY 06 AUGUST

Breakfast.

You have the day to explore Buenos Aires under your own steam.

You could decide to visit La Recoleta, a very fashionable neighbourhood famous for its French style buildings, many attractive public gardens, shops, restaurants and boutiques. Here you will also find the Cemetery of the Recoleta, a very elaborate cemetery, where the most celebrated Argentineans, including Eva Peron and her family, are buried. The mausoleums replicate chapels, pyramids and Greek temples.

Arrive back at the hotel and get your kit together.

Transfer to the BUENOS AIRES CRICKET & RUGBY CLUB for your matches.

SATURDAY 07 AUGUST

0815 hrs Check out of your hotel this morning, and travel by coach to AEROPARQUE JORGE NEWBERY.

0830 hrs Check in to flight AR1724 to IGUAZÚ.

0920 hrs Flight departs.

1105 hrs Arrive Iguazú Airport and transfer the short distance to your hotel where the whole party will be based for the following two nights on a half-board basis.

Enjoy sightseeing at the Falls this afternoon.


SUNDAY 08 AUGUST

Today you will undertake sightseeing at CATARATAS (referring to the 275 different falls in the system).

Of all the exquisite natural wonders South America has to offer, the gigantic Iguazú Falls are the most magnificent. Every second nearly 450,000 gallons of water crashes down over a distance of 4kms in hundreds of subsidiary waterfalls through dense jungle.

You will experience EL GRAN AVENTURA (included in price), when you will travel for 5 km in 4x4 all-terrain vehicles. Afterwards, board jet boats, which navigate the 10 kms through the Lower Iguazú River, before crossing the rapids to the thundering Falls. The boats will literally take you under the Falls where you will get soaked before finishing your adventure at San Martin Island.

This evening, you will enjoy a RAFAIN CHURRASCARIA WATERFALL SHOW and dinner together (included in price). This is a cultural show and a churrascaria (barbecue) amidst a mix of Latin American and Caribbean cultures.


MONDAY 09 AUGUST

After breakfast check out of your hotel and return to IGUAZÚ AIRPORT. Check in to flight AR2729 to BUENOS AIRES.

1600 hrs Flight departs.

1750 hrs Arrive AEROPARQUE JORGE NEWBERY and collect your luggage; make your way outside where and a coach will transfer you to EZEIZA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

Arrive at Ezeiza international Airport where you will check in to your return flight AR1132 to MADRID.

2100 hrs Flight departs.

Overnight in flight.



TUESDAY 10 AUGUST

1340 hrs Arrive Madrid Airport and you will connect with flight UX1015 to LONDON.

1500 hrs Flight departs.

1615 hrs Arrive London Gatwick Airport, South / North Terminal, and clear UK Immigration and Passport Control, collect your luggage and pass through Customs. Disperse for home (own arrangements for getting to/from London Gatwick Airport).
